I see the world through my phone, along with everyone else in my generation. This is unchangeable, and though that is the case, it is not necessarily a great thing. Nancy Jo Sales wrote an article called “Tinder and the Dawn of the Dating Apocalypse.” In this article, Sales begins to describe a scene of young adults in a bar, on tinder. It is ironic because all of the groups at the bar are not taking a break to look up and see each other in real life. This is an amazing example of how our world is seen through screens. This is common everywhere you go, young adults are not able to begin a real-life conversation anymore and instead they focus on social media and look into finding strangers through the internet. Sales talks to some young women about this phenomenon who say “you form your first impression based off Facebook rather than forming a connection with someone, so you’re, like, forming your connection with their profile.” I say this is accurate and is starting from younger ages now because you do not have to leave your house to meet people anymore. Throughout this article, sales makes her point that “people used to meet their partners through proximity, through family and friends, but now Internet meeting is surpassing every other form.” I feel that this is a problem in today’s society, I am very interested in the topic because of how fast it has taken over the people surrounding me. I found this article on The Electric Typewriter which is a website provided to me by my English professor. The Electric Typewriter has articles on all sorts of interesting and informative topics. This article shows how this generation is advancing, but may be going in the wrong direction because it is missing something. This is similar to how science and technology is constantly growing, but with art added it could expand even more. Both categories need an extra push to be the best that they can be.
