Final blog post. Blog #21 As you reflect on the class’s trajectory of readings in the context of this podcast, what role do you see language playing in your life? Work hard to articulate your relationship with language–the good, the bad, and the ugly. How important has language been to you in the past? How important is it now? What role do you see language playing in your future?

In this podcast, the beginning gave the impression that language is very important. In this case, the language of certain people was impaired. The woman in the podcast was in an accident and afterward, she could not think fully. She went to a college and found a sign language class which was amazing and she began to learn how to sign. To communicate is to talk back and forth and understand what another human is saying. This woman is able to learn how to do this again without getting upset. This woman met a man who did not have language because he was deaf. He did not know he was deaf and did not understand words. As this woman tried to teach him signs it was very frustrating for her because he was not understanding. When he finally understood it was amazing and he wanted to learn the words for everything. Language impacts every part of our lives. Language has helped me grow up, understand my world and continue to learn and work. It helps me see where I am and understand that there is a reason that I am here. If I did not have language I would not be able to understand anything. It would be hard to make friends and know why I am doing specific things. In my future language will continue to help me with everything and most importantly making a great life for myself. That includes a job, house, family and so much more. Language can also give bad news and signs of what is to come in the future. It is the base of everything in the world and without it there would be no way to understand other people.
