James Geary says that metaphor lives a secret life all around us, I say I have mixed feelings about that. On the one hand, metaphors are woven into our everyday lives and many people don’t realize it. On the other hand, I still insist that metaphors are not hidden enough to be called a secret. Michael Erard and Dhruv Khullar would probably agree with Geary. They would also say that when a metaphor is apt, people are more likely to interpret it better. My own view is that everyone interprets things differently. Though I acknowledge that people are more likely to understand an apt metaphor, I still maintain that other people may take an apt metaphor the wrong way. Although some people might object that metaphors are significant, I would reply that they are vital in our lives. This issue is important to everyone because metaphor play an immense role in how we perceive our bodies and pursue health.
